Update on our season (May 15, 2020)

Coronavirus-19 has certainly stamped its imprint onto 2020. With the guidelines from the Minnesota Department of Health, Department of Natural Resources and the Center for Disease Control, we have decided to make some changes to the 2020 Minnesota Junior B.A.S.S. Nation season. Safety has always taken precedent over fishing and that includes before, during and after our events.

While we certainly encourage all anglers and their families to get outdoors, go fishing, and be safe. We also understand that our events bring together members from multiple households and communities and that is an unsafe practice during these times.

Our preliminary revised plan is below. We will continue to monitor the situation and make a new announcement on June 15th, 2020. Please understand that should we need to further change at that time, that it will be to cancel the entire 2020 tournament season.

High School

  • The first two events, Open #1 and Open #2,  will be cancelled this season.

  • All conferences will only fish their last July tournament, Open #3, in their season on the date previously scheduled. Sign up deadline for this event will be extended until June 15th, 2020.

  • There will be no out-of-conference sign up. You will only fish your Open #3.

  • Qualifications for the State Championship will be based on this one event. Quantity of qualifiers will be decided at a later day pending updates. There will also be no wildcard volunteering or slots given for these this year in order to hopefully enhance the number or qualifiers from the single open in each conference.

  • Both opens will be cancelled this season.

  • Sign up for the State Championship will continue until July 10, 2020 as previously planned.

For all anglers

Due to these changes in our schedule, we will be starting a new program on June 3, 2020 to help promote fishing and learning.

  • We will be starting a weekly photo challenge with prize giveaways

  • Anglers will be tasked with learning and trying a new technique and submit a photo of their success

  • Each week all participants with a submission will be eligible to win through random selection.

  • Our goal is to keep it equitable for kids to fish from a pier, kayak, boat or whatever resource is nearest to them without pressure of competing against those with more access.

  • The focus is on learning, fun, and fishing!

  • Specific details will be on our site soon and reminders will be sent each week too.

Though we might not be competing as much as we intended in 2020, it is important to keep in mind that fishing still is a great way to spend your time. We want all of you to get out as much as you can, stay safe, and enjoy our great sport.

Tight lines everyone!
